Garden Club Seeks Entries For National/State Essay Contest 2013-2014
The Wollaston Garden Club is encouraging entries from high school students from Quincy for the 2013-2014 National Garden Club’s Essay Contest on the theme of “Today's Choices Affect Tpmorrow's World”. Each year a $1,000 NGC Scholarship is awarded to the National Winner. Awards of $200, $100 and $75 are award by the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts for the three best essays by students from Massachusetts
The High School Essay Contest is open to all High School students, grades 9-12. Each year a $1,000 NGC Scholarship will be awarded to the National Winner. The Wollaston Garden Club is pleased to sponsor any interested Quincy student essay writer.

ESSAY CONTEST RULES
Length of Essay:Between 600-700 words. The entry will be penalized if the essay does not conform to the required length. All words are to be counted. All entries must be typed and titled. Students should write the essay so it is suitable to be published in the NGC publication,The National Gardener. Essays are judged for content (knowledge of subject, practically of proposal, originality, well organized/clarity of presentation); composition (vocabulary and conformance to length); and manuscript (entrant’s information and neatness.) Students should write the essay so it is suitable to be published in the NGC publication, The National Gardener; all entries become the property of National Garden Club, Inc.
Eligibility:Contests are open to High School students attending 9th through 12th grades. The contest must be sponsored by: single garden club, group of member clubs, councils or districts; or a State Garden Club. All entries become the property of National Garden Clubs, Inc.
A $1,000 National Garden Club Scholarship will be awarded to the National Winner. If the Winner is an underclassman, the $1000 Scholarship will be held by NGC, Inc. without accrued interest, until such time that the student enters college. At that time, the money will be forwarded to the Financial Aid Officer of the college that the student will enter. The second place winner will receive $100.00.
Contest Deadlines: Club entries must be sent to Local Chair at Wollaston Garden Club by November 15th. State Winners must be sent to Regional Chairman by January 1.
Regional Winners must be sent to National Chairman by February 1.

Local entries must be mailed to the Wollaston Garden Club, PO Box 147, Wollaston, MA 02170 by the deadline of Thursday, November 15, 2013. The Wollaston Garden Club will send each entrant an acknowledgement of their essay submission. Essays will then be forwarded to the state and national chairs.
